NUIG

The main campus of the University is located on 260 riverside acres, close to the centre of Galway city. NUI Galway enjoys an intimate relationship with the city. Students, who represent 15% of the population during the academic year, are the life-blood of many of the city's social, cultural, and commercial institutions.

With over 72,000 residents, Galway is a compact city. However, its population is currently growing at a rate significantly faster than any other city in Ireland. Inward migration has accounted for much of this growth, reflecting the attractiveness of Galway as a quality location in which to work and live.

Galway is building an international reputation in several niche industrial sectors. Strong clusters are evident in the fields of biomedical engineering, electronics, aquaculture, and software development.

Being a university city, Galway is a lively energetic place throughout the year. Its many attractions include:

  • a unique location on Galway Bay and as a gateway to Connemara
  • a vibrant city centre with traditional medieval streets
  • a youthful population and its diverse musical culture
  • a strong tradition in the performing arts.

Though you will certainly choose a postgraduate programme of study primarily because of its proven excellence, the environment provided by the thriving city of Galway can only underline your decision to come to NUI Galway.

See local web sites: www.galway.ie/and www.galway.net/ for more information on our thriving city.
